Our Story

IndiCare was built from both sides of the care experience.

First as a child whose life was recorded by adults. Years later, as a Registered Manager responsible for the care, leadership and records of other children.

Why this is personal

I understand records from both sides.

I grew up in care.

I know what it means for adults to write about your childhood and for their words to become part of how your experiences are understood and remembered.

Years later, I became a Registered Manager in residential childcare.

That placed me on the other side of the record: responsible for helping adults describe what happened, evidence the support provided, preserve the child’s voice and make clear what needed to happen next.

Those two experiences are the reason IndiCare exists.

Two sides of the same responsibility

The words can look very different depending on which side of the record you are standing.

As a child

The record becomes part of your story.

Adults may remember writing a record for one shift, one incident or one decision.

For the child, those words may remain in their history long after the moment has passed.

They can influence how other adults understand them and may later become part of how they try to understand their own childhood.

As a Registered Manager

The record carries evidence and accountability.

Adults in children’s homes are expected to record complex moments clearly, accurately and respectfully.

Managers rely on those records to understand practice, review decisions, identify learning and make sure actions are completed.

The responsibility is real, even when the adult is tired and the shift has been difficult.

The journey to IndiCare

IndiCare did not begin as an idea for another software company.

It began with a problem I had seen repeatedly throughout residential childcare.

The reality

Important records are often written after difficult moments.

An incident may have happened. A child may still need support. Other children may need attention. The shift continues, and the adult must somehow turn a complex experience into a clear record.

The risk

The child can disappear behind the behaviour or event.

Under pressure, records can become focused only on what went wrong. The child’s communication, the context, the support offered and what adults learned can be lost.

The opportunity

Better technology could give adults a calmer place to think.

Technology cannot replace relationships, judgement or accountability. But it can help adults organise information, reflect and examine whether the record tells the full story.

The responsibility

Build something shaped around children’s homes from the beginning.

Not a generic assistant adapted to care later, but a specialist form of intelligence grounded in the language, practice and responsibility of residential childcare.

What IndiCare stands for

Better technology should strengthen care, not distance adults from it.

Every decision about IndiCare and ORB should return to the same principles.

01

Keep the child central

The child’s experience, communication and humanity should remain visible throughout the work.

02

Keep responsibility human

Technology may support thinking and drafting, but adults remain accountable for judgement, action and final decisions.

03

Build for the real world

The product must understand the pressure, complexity and emotional reality of residential childcare.

The purpose

IndiCare exists to help adults think, reflect and record more clearly.

The purpose is not to make adults less important.

It is to reduce some of the pressure surrounding writing, reflection and evidence so adults can apply their experience and judgement more effectively.

It is about helping adults leave clearer records, helping managers see what needs attention and protecting the child from being reduced to a collection of incidents or labels.

Ultimately, it is about helping adults spend more of their time and energy on what matters most: the child in front of them.

Care Preserve humanity, context and the child’s lived experience.
Connect Help information, reflection and professional understanding work together.
Empower Strengthen adults and managers without replacing their judgement.
The first product

ORB Residential turns the belief into something practical.

ORB is a specialist assistant for adults working in residential children’s homes.

It helps adults ask questions, reflect, organise their thinking, prepare clearer drafts and review important information.

It supports the adult. It does not replace professional judgement, safeguarding responsibility or human accountability.
