I understand records from both sides.
I grew up in care. Years later, I became a Registered Manager.
I know what it means for your childhood to be written about by adults. I also know the responsibility carried by the adults writing those records today.
Some of the most important records are written at the end of the hardest shifts. They must remain honest, factual and accountable, but the child should never disappear behind the event.
That experience is why I built IndiCare.
A record does not end when the shift does.
It informs the next adult on shift. It contributes to reviews, safeguarding discussions and professional decisions. It can shape how a child is understood by the people around them.
One day, it may also be read by the child themselves.
The most important question is often what happens next.
