Your voice, your choice

Imagine being a child, sitting in a room filled with adults discussing your life and not one of them asking what your thoughts are, as they discuss your future, and your home, yet feeling like the only person not being heard.

One moment, you’re in the only home you’ve ever known—however imperfect it might have been. The next, you’re being told you have to leave. You pack a bag, clutching a few belongings, and step into the unknown. The questions swirl in your head: “Who will look after me?” “Will I ever feel safe again?” “Does anyone care what I think?” “Why has this happened?” “Where am I going?”

Our Director knows these feelings all too well. Having lived through the care system himself, his experiences have shaped Indicare’s very foundation. His insights remind us of the uncertainty, the vulnerability, and the resilience that come with being in care. His story gives us a deep understanding of the challenges faced by young people, but it also reminds us of a crucial truth: every child has their own story.

Every Child’s Voice Matters

While we can empathise, we know that no two experiences are the same. Every young person in care has their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and we must never assume we truly know what they are going through. Their story is theirs alone, and it is a privilege if they choose to share it. At Indicare, we listen without judgment and act with care, ensuring that every child feels respected, valued, and supported in the way they need most.

Our role is not to rewrite their story, but to help them shape it in a way that feels safe and empowering we ensure that their voices are at the centre of every decision made about their lives.

Why We Exist

Our Director’s lived experience reminds us of the power of understanding, but it also keeps us grounded in the knowledge that each child’s journey is unique. His story gives us invaluable insight, but it also humbles us, reminding us that no one can ever fully know the thoughts and feelings of another. This is why we approach every child and young person with respect, empathy, and a willingness to listen—not to impose, but to understand.

Indicare was founded to ensure that children and young people in care are not just seen but truly heard. We understand that the care system can feel overwhelming, impersonal, and isolating. Our mission is to change that, creating spaces where young people feel safe, valued, and empowered to share their voices when they are ready.

A Future Built on Trust

For every child stepping into a children’s home, it’s not just a physical move—it’s the beginning of a new chapter. At Indicare, we are committed to ensuring that this chapter is one of safety, growth, and hope. We believe that every young person deserves to feel supported, not just by systems but by people who genuinely care.

We understand that trusting someone with your story is an act of courage, and we are honoured to be entrusted with that privilege. Our work is built on this foundation of trust and respect, ensuring that every child feels heard without judgment and supported without condition.
